This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide person centred specialist occupational therapy services to children and adults in the David Lewis School, College and Residential Services.

David Lewis Clinical & Therapy Services provide support for people who live in residential services and students who access educational services. We are dedicated to improving the quality of lives for people with learning disabilities and or autism, epilepsy, complex learning disorders, including neurological impairments, and other complex support needs. The people we support ages range from 11 to end of life. We have a successful track record, built up over 120 years with expertise and are rated as GOOD by the CQC.

Supporting the Therapy Lead, you will join a team of occupational therapists and help shape the future development of the Occupational Therapy services to meet the needs of the people we support. You will carry out the assessment and treatment of a specialist caseload. The facilities on site enable our Occupational Therapists to complete comprehensive assessments of an individual’s functional level of independence in all areas of social, communication, employment, education and life skills.

Some of our facilities on site include school, college, swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, a farm, two cafes, a doggy day-care centre and a forest school. This provides a variety of environments and opportunities for our occupational therapists to assess and complete interventions for the people we support at David Lewis.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a recognised Occupational Therapy Degree Qualification (or equivalent) and Health Professions Council (HCPC) Registration.
  • Ideally be a Registered member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills and will be a strong team player with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

This position would suit an experienced band 6 looking to further progress their existing skills or an established band 7 equivalent occupational therapist. We provide a variety of continuous development opportunities with regular in-service training sessions, supervision, peer reviews and annual appraisals to ensure we can further develop and support the ongoing learning needs and training of our therapists. Additional training for sensory integration therapy and rebound therapy will be provided if required to support the ongoing needs of our service and those we support.

The department operates Monday-Friday. There are no weekend or bank holiday requirements. We can offer a flexible working pattern. Depending on service needs, home working opportunities for administrative tasks can also be considered.
