About the Opportunity
Gallery Assistant
David Zwirner seeks a full-time Gallery Assistant for its London gallery. Qualified candidates should be highly personable, proactive, motivated, detail‑oriented, and have strong communication skills. Previous experience at a gallery, museum, or comparable arts organisation is required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Front Desk
- Greeting visitors with professionalism and warmth, and interfacing with the public
- Fielding and directing incoming phone calls
- Ensuring that front desk materials are always up to date and immaculately presented
- Managing various gallery and staff calendars
- Shipping and receiving gallery mail and packages
- Maintaining general office and kitchen supply inventories
- Maintaining the pristine appearance of the front desk area and the built‑in book displays, while keeping exhibition materials stocked and orderly
- Assisting with contact database maintenance, exhibition preparation, vinyl production, and additional projects as needed
- Providing general administrative support for all departments
- Overseeing the London mailbox and managing online sales enquiries, promptly directing queries to the relevant teams
Events
- Assisting in the coordination of gallery events, including private views, talks, tours and receptions
- Conducting venue research and booking reservations
- Assisting with invitations and managing guest lists in tandem with the sales team
- Managing RSVP lists, seating plans and guest check‑in
Books/Archive
- Assisting in the management of the front desk bookshelf and books inventory
- Selling books, updating and managing sales databases
- Presenting new titles and exhibition‑related books in staff meetings
- Assisting the Managing Director of DZ Books with research, drafting presentations, calendar management, booking travel, expenses, etc.
- Coordinating David Zwirner Books events
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Art History or a related field
- Demonstrated familiarity with and interest in contemporary art and the gallery’s programme
- A detail‑oriented, take‑ownership approach, self‑organisation, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Premier Access – to private on‑site and off‑site events, such as exhibition previews, book signings, talks, and walkthroughs with gallery artists and estate members, and external curators and scholars
- Staff‑driven projects and fundraising initiatives, including David Zwirner’s commitment to Galleries Commit
The position is 5 days a week, 9:45 am to 6:00 pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Applicants will occasionally need to work additional hours for events and openings.
Eligibility to work in the UK is essential. Interviews for this position will happen in mid‑July with a start date as soon as possible.
