Responsibilities
We are looking for someone who is keen to continue the development of our academic Religious Education offer, with an initial focus on Key Stage 3, but plans to build a strong Key Stage 4 offer in the future.
- Lead the Religious Education Department, taking responsibility for the strategic oversight, development of curriculum and staff, and outcomes for students.
- Lead on the relevant subject improvement strategy plans and/or the Academy improvement plan and report to the senior leadership team and governors on this area.
- Oversee the teaching team in your department, including any ECTs, non-specialists and cover staff, as well as any support staff allocated to you and lead faculty staff development and training, including evaluating the effectiveness and impact.
- Be responsible for outcomes across your department.
- Attend wider leadership meetings and training and be part of the wider leadership group, supporting with the development of teaching and learning across the full academy.
- Develop and hold to account any teachers and support staff that fall under your leadership.
- Ensure the curriculum is planned across key stages, with appropriate resourcing, across the full department, for all appropriate subjects.
- Ensure all teachers in your subject area(s) have up-to-date "Class on a Page" documentation to ensure planning is personalised to meet the needs of all students.
- Work collaboratively with any relevant trust wide personnel and staff from other DRET academies and take an active part in appropriate trust subject communities where applicable.
- Liaise with leaders accordingly to ensure the qualification subjects are compliant.
- Lead the assessment of students in your subjects (creating assessments as appropriate) and lead moderation and standardisation where appropriate, including assessments for KPIs.
- Ensure all deadlines are met across your department with regards to quality assurance, assessment points, examination entries and other relevant areas.
- Lead the quality assurance across your department.
- Lead Performance Development (appraisal) for staff in your department.
- Support pastoral leadership, ensuring high standards of behaviour across your department.
- Support with wider professional duties including "hot spots" monitoring, Reflection Room, detentions, isolation and Radio Walk.
- Maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge of the teaching of your subject(s) and take account of wider curriculum developments which are relevant to your work.
- Contribute to the academy and trust enrichment programmes, including supporting whole-academy events and taking a leadership role at appropriate events.
- Do all that you can to ensure that you safeguard and promote the welfare of students and staff in the Academy.
- Set well-grounded consistent expectations for students using information about prior attainment.
- Assess, monitor and record the progress of students in your classes (and tutorial groups) and give them clear and constructive feedback.
