Overview

We aim to reduce barriers to learning for vulnerable students through co-ordination of intervention and Teaching Assistant deployment.

As a Teaching Assistant apprentice, you will work with the Quality of Education Team to support teachers' strategies so that all students access a knowledge-rich and inclusive curriculum.

You will also support SENCO responsibilities, including working with external agencies and families, with timely reviews following the SEND Code of Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the specific needs of individual students and groups.
  • As part of the apprenticeship, receive dedicated time, training and support to achieve a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Assess, plan, organise and provide practical assistance related to identified physical needs (e. g., transport, dressing, meal times) to support personal, health, social and emotional development (PHSE) and independence.
  • Maintain appropriate records, monitor progression and attainment, and provide reports to inform the assessment process.
  • Plan and undertake routine learning activities with individuals or groups to support physical, emotional, social and educational development.
  • Monitor conduct and behaviour during the learning process and use appropriate strategies to de-escalate conflicts and support positive behaviour.
  • Supervise students in dining, playground and circulation areas and promote engagement in appropriate activities.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, welfare and safety policies and procedures as required by the Trust.

This is a fixed-term post, working 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, for the duration of the Apprenticeship.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Evidence of a pass in GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent (5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above is desirable).
  • Experience of working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Ability to engage with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the academy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.
  • Inspiring, motivating and enthusing students across the academy.
