Responsibilities

  • Manage the provision for pupils identified as having Special Educational Needs or a Disability (SEND), promoting high quality teaching, effective use of resources, and high standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion within the school community where all views are valued.
  • Deliver the SEND provision across the school and support the welfare needs of SEND and all students.
  • Manage appropriate resources for Special Needs and Learning Support and ensure they are used efficiently, effectively and safely.
  • Develop curriculum resources to ensure students identified as having SEND receive the required levels of support within classroom learning and intervention sessions.
  • Help manage the implementation of an inclusive curriculum.
  • Provide all staff involved in Special Needs and Disability and Learning Support with the necessary support, challenge, information and development to sustain motivation and secure improvement in learning.
  • Manage, maintain and update the Inclusion and Provision maps.
  • Allocate support time and write Student profiles/passports.
  • Liaise with relevant outside agencies and parents to ensure that individual student SEND requirements are met fully and the requirements of statements of SEND are fulfilled.
  • Keep accurate, professional and detailed records of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies.
  • Inform staff of students' SEND Plan and deliver continued professional development and support across the school.
  • Assist other staff to use Student Profiles to set subject‑specific targets and match work well to students' needs.
  • Use data effectively to identify pupils who are seriously underachieving and create and implement effective action plans to support those students.
  • Provide guidance to staff on appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of different students.
  • Promote an inclusive curriculum.
  • Liaise with and inform parents/carers about the specifics of the SEND provision for their child.
  • Monitor the progress of students with SEND and advise parents and external agencies.
  • Offer advice and support to teaching staff in providing a quality first‑teach approach, planning, preparing and delivering specified learning activities to individuals, small groups and/or classes, modifying and adapting activities as necessary.
