We are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor to join our team. The key purpose of the job is to facilitate high‑quality learning within the classroom in the absence of the regular teacher, while assisting with general administrative duties. This post will require the post holder to cover lessons and/or registration time for absent colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive promptly at the classroom.
  • Supervise classes whose normal timetabled teacher is absent, taking sole charge of a group of pupils.
  • Deliver and explain the work set to students.
  • Respond to any questions relevant to the work set.
  • Ensure students have the materials needed to carry out the tasks set for them.
  • Maintain a positive working atmosphere and keep the work productive.
  • Facilitate and encourage learning that helps all students achieve their potential.

Qualifications and Experience

  • GCSE grade A‑C (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • NVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • University degree or FE qualifications.
  • An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

  • Understanding a variety of positive behaviour management techniques.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, as well as ICT skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; courteous and polite.
  • Ability to represent and celebrate the values, culture and ethos of the school.
  • Ability to relate well to students, act as an effective role model and motivate them to achieve success.
  • Ability to raise standards of attainment and aspiration.
  • Professional manner at all times, excellent organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of assessment models and other relevant learning strategies/programmes of study.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humour, initiative and self‑motivation.
  • Flexibility, creativity and ability to think laterally.
  • Effective time‑management skills.
  • Ability to be reflective and self‑critical.

Contract Details

  • 37 hours per week over 39 weeks on a permanent contract.
