Overview

As our cover manager, you will

Responsibilities

  • Consult with supply agencies to organise and allocate daily lesson cover for absent teaching staff
  • Be the main point of contact for teaching staff, supply agencies, and senior leadership regarding cover arrangements
  • Ensure all cover staff receive appropriate briefing and resources for lessons
  • Be involved in planning for known periods of staff absence such as exams and school events
  • Use the school MIS (Bromcom) to record absences and allocate cover efficiently
  • Oversee a team of cover supervisors in a large school environment
  • Maintain a calm, strategic response to unexpected absences and last‑minute changes
  • Gradually take on delivery of supervised cover lessons
  • 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time)

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level / NVQ-level 2 or equivalent, including English and Maths.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage complex administrative systems.
  • Strong IT skills, including MIS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional approach to interacting with staff, students, and external visitors.
  • Ability to organise own work and be self‑motivated.
  • Ability to remain calm and solution‑focused in a fast‑paced environment.
