A non-Chartered Engineer with relevant experience (post graduation) working under the direction of a Section Leader.

General Requirements and Attributes for Role

  • Ability to exercise engineering judgement and make independent decisions (Project Engineer).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of projects, and the staff assigned to the project.
  • Resourcing and Work Planning – assist Section Leader to coordinate information on a weekly basis.
  • Design – prepare design calculations as required following the procedure and methods laid out in the Office Manual.
  • Training – take responsibility for your own training and personal development. Be committed to the company's ICE Approved Training Scheme and follow the advice and direction of the Delegated Engineer.
  • Health & Safety – ensure you are aware of the risks associated with visits to construction sites, unoccupied buildings, etc. Ensure you have the appropriate PPE and other equipment for such visits. Ensure you have had asbestos awareness training. Ensure you have a CSC Health & Safety card or are in the process of obtaining one. Prepare project risk assessments and residual risk identification when required, defining and maintaining quality safety standards.
  • Commercial Awareness – understand the need for projects to be profitable and take responsibility for monitoring the fee on jobs you are responsible for. Prepare fee quotations and fee claims when required where scope of work has changed or additional services have been instructed.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Section Leader in preparing a weekly workload report.
  • Maintain resourcing information in Workspace.
  • Communicate effectively either verbally or by preparing letters and reports as required.
  • Carry out structural design work as required.
  • Carry out inspections as required (Project Engineer).
  • Monitor financial performance/profitability of projects.
  • Discuss Project Owner report with Section Leader each month.
  • Maintain continuing professional development and keep abreast of technical developments and legislation.
  • Help the company to be profitable and raise profile with external clients through key relationships.
  • Be involved in and contribute to decisions affecting projects and the practice.
  • Report to Section Leader on all technical and welfare issues as necessary and on Project Owner reports.
  • Work individually and as a project team member efficiently, professionally, and in a helpful manner.
  • Assist in the training and development of junior technical staff (Project Engineer).
  • For projects which you are responsible for, ensure that all fees due are invoiced and ensure that invoices are raised as soon as the work has been completed.

Project Owner

  • Carry out or discuss conceptual/feasibility design of projects.
  • Plan, supervise, and manage projects to ensure a quality service to clients.
  • Ensure that Health & Safety aspects of designs are properly considered for compliance with CDM Regulations.
  • Monitor financial performance/profitability of project.
