An established Mechanical Building Services contractor operating across London is looking to appoint a Junior or Intermediate Mechanical Estimator to join its growing Pre-Construction team. The company delivers a varied portfolio of mechanical projects across the commercial fit-out and refurbishment sectors, working through both Design & Build and traditional tendering arrangements. Typical tender values range from approximately £500,000 to £10 million.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developing Mechanical Estimator to work alongside an experienced Head of Estimating, gain exposure to increasingly substantial tenders and continue building a long-term career within mechanical building services. The business has longstanding client relationships, a strong pipeline of work and offers a supportive environment in which the successful candidate can further develop their technical, commercial and estimating capabilities.

The Role

The Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator will assist with and manage mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission. You will review tender documentation, obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, prepare accurate estimates and support the production of competitive tender submissions. Working closely with the Head of Estimating and wider Pre-Construction team, you will also contribute to Design & Build opportunities and assist with tender follow-up and project handover.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings and specifications
  • Preparing mechanical estimates and tender submissions
  • Completing tender forms and pricing schedules
  • Obtaining and assessing subcontractor and supplier quotations
  • Producing accurate and commercially competitive pricing
  • Attending site surveys and pre-tender meetings when required
  • Assisting with Design & Build tenders
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Managing multiple tenders and submission deadlines
  • Supporting tender follow-up and project handover
  • Contributing to the continued improvement of estimating systems and processes

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have around two to six years Mechanical Estimating experience, ideally gained with a Mechanical, HVAC or M&E Building Services contractor. You should have:

  • Previous experience within a Mechanical Estimating position
  • A good understanding of mechanical building services
  • Knowledge of HVAC, air conditioning, heating, cooling, plumbing or public health systems
  • Experience reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • The ability to obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and communication abilities
  • The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience of commercial fit-out, refurbishment or Design & Build projects would be advantageous.

This position would suit either a Junior Mechanical Estimator looking to take on greater responsibility or an Intermediate Mechanical Estimator seeking broader exposure and long-term career progression.

Remuneration

The successful Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator will receive:

  • £45,000 - £55,000 basic salary
  • Company pension
  • Benefits package

The final package will reflect the successful candidate's experience and background.
