This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established M&E Building Services contractor delivering commercial office fit-out projects across Central London, typically ranging from £100k to £2m in value.
Working within a fast-paced Design & Build environment, this role offers the opportunity to be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and design development through to delivery and handover.

The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing and coordinating mechanical building services designs that are both technically robust and fully deliverable within live project environments. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role within a Design & Build setting, working closely with project and site teams to ensure designs align with programme, cost, and buildability requirements.
Projects typically range from small works through to larger commercial fit-out installations, generally from £100k up to £2m in value.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing mechanical building services designs and specifications
- Supporting design development from concept through to detailed design
- Coordinating designs within a Design & Build environment
- Working closely with project and site teams to ensure buildable solutions
- Attending design meetings and liaising with clients and stakeholders
- Supporting technical submissions and documentation
- Assisting with on-site queries and live design adjustments during delivery
Requirements
- Experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the Building Services sector
- Strong experience delivering commercial projects (office fit-out, refurbishment, or similar)
- Experience working within a Design & Build or contractor-led environment
- Ability to produce practical, buildable designs suited to fast-paced delivery
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems
- Experience with AutoCAD and ideally Revit/BIM tools
- Stable career history demonstrating commitment and reliability
Important: This role is specifically suited to engineers with commercial or fit-out project experience. Those whose experience is primarily within residential or developer-led projects are unlikely to be a strong match.
Remuneration Package
- Mechanical Design Engineer £65,000 - £75,000
- Hybrid working (typically 3 days in the office, 2 days from home)
- Travel expenses covered for office attendance
