We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented MOT Tester and mechanic to join our reputable independent family run garage. Being in business since 1988, we have recently moved premises to two newly refurbished units with state of the art equipment and facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting MOT tests in accordance with legal standards and ensuring vehicles meet safety and environmental requirements. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for vehicle safety and mechanical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct MOT tests on a variety of vehicles (class 4 only) in compliance with current legislation and safety standards.
  • Carry out servicing, repairs and diagnostics to all makes of cars and small vans.
  • Identify faults or issues and advise customers on necessary repairs or maintenance.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Maintain the MOT equipment and ensure it is calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Keep the testing area clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience or recognised qualification as an MOT Tester.
  • Basic tools required for most repairs (tool stations and box supplied).
  • Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems and components.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when handling vehicle parts or equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills to explain findings clearly to customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
