For more than 60 years, David Austin Roses has been growing and breeding roses in Albrighton, Shropshire, guided by the same care, patience and attention to detail that have defined the business since it was founded in 1961. Today, we sell to gardeners and growers around the world, both directly and through our trade and wholesale partners. We remain a family business, now in our third generation, and the same care that goes into breeding a rose goes into everything else we do. Our offices sit within the nursery, among growing fields, breeding greenhouses, walled rose gardens and the original family farmhouse. It is a place where horticulture, craftsmanship and innovation come together every day.

About you

You are a digital designer with a real eye for quality. You bring a rigour and care to your work that shows in the finished thing, down to the details most people never notice. You think commercially as well as creatively. You understand how design shapes conversion, engagement and the way a brand is felt, and you let that understanding guide your decisions. You are comfortable with performance data and happy to be led by it, without losing your instinct for what looks and feels right. You move across web, email and social while keeping hold of the brand that runs through all of it. You care about the craft beneath good design, the layout, the grids, the typesetting, and you know how to balance considered brand communication with conversion‑focused UX. Beauty motivates you, and it matters just as much to us.

About the role

You will report to our Brand & Ecommerce Director, a member of the founding Austin family, and you will be our dedicated in‑house digital designer. The work spans three international D2C stores (UK, US and EU), a B2B website, email marketing, and paid and organic social. We also work with an external web agency on larger structural projects, and you will work alongside them when it helps. You will join a close‑knit team who get on well and take the work seriously. You will work with our ecommerce developer, our ecommerce executives, our CRM team, our social and content teams, and our Senior Graphic Designer, who leads on print, packaging and POS. There is a great deal we would love to do: better localisation across the UK, US and EU stores, a stronger editorial feel alongside the commercial pages, and a more considered experience for anyone who comes across us.

What you will be doing

  • Designing and developing the UX and visual identity of our D2C and B2B websites, taking projects from first sketch and wireframe through to finished, high‑fidelity UI, and making sure the David Austin brand is expressed as authentically online as it is everywhere else.
  • Making sure our sites work for the people who use them, designing around our key customer personas and the journeys they take, and staying close to how real visitors actually behave, through session recordings and other research, so the experience keeps getting better.
  • Supporting our CRO programme across the three international stores, from product and landing pages to checkout, through a mix of new features and steady, ongoing improvement, with a clear eye on CVR and AOV.
  • Building and maintaining our design systems and component libraries in Figma, so everything stays consistent across regions.
  • Designing email campaigns with our CRM team and creating paid and organic social work across Meta, Pinterest, TikTok and YouTube, where capacity allows.
  • Briefing the content team on the imagery and assets that will work hardest online.
  • Working with our in‑house ecommerce developer and our external Shopify Plus agency, so your designs reach production cleanly and faithfully.

What you will need

  • A minimum of six years in digital design, with genuine range across web, email and social, ideally a mix of agency and in‑house. We will want to see all three reflected in your portfolio.
  • A clear way of working, from framing the problem through to testing, release and the improvements that follow, drawing on both qualitative and quantitative evidence at the right moments.
  • Genuine curiosity about how people use a website. We are not looking for a dedicated UX researcher, but we do want someone who enjoys getting into session recordings, personas and journeys, and letting what they learn shape the work.
  • Fluency in the main design tools, Figma and Adobe Creative Suite among them, with a practical sense of where AI tools genuinely help.
  • Real quality of craft: a sharp eye for typography, typesetting and clean layout, and a feel for premium, heritage brands.
  • A collaborative, straight‑talking, patient way of working, and no ego to speak of.

Useful but not essential

  • Motion and video editing (Premiere Pro, After Effects or similar).
  • Email and CRM platforms such as Ometria.
  • Basic HTML and CSS, and photographic retouching.
  • Experience across both D2C and B2B.

What you will get

  • £40,000 to £50,000 depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working, four days on site at our Albrighton nursery and one from home.
  • Health cash plan.
  • Total earnings pension contributions.
  • Company bonus.
  • 20% staff discount on our roses.
  • Summer and winter team gatherings.
  • Access to leading ecommerce conferences and events.
  • Support for learning and professional development.
