- We are seeking a skilled and motivated
Gear Cutter / Thread and Worm Grinder to join our precision engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing and finishing high-precision gears, worms, and threaded components using a range of specialist CNC and manual grinding and gear cutting machines.
The role requires a strong understanding of engineering drawings, precision measurement, and maintaining high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate
- Gleason P60 and
Gleason P90 gear cutting machines.
- Set up and operate
Doimak Thread and Worm Grinders .
- Operate
Matrix Thread Grinders to produce precision threaded components.
- Use a variety of conventional / manual machine tools as required.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Produce gears, worms, and threaded components to tight tolerances.
- Select and dress grinding wheels where required.
- Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment, including micrometres, verniers, bore gauges, and thread measuring instruments.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish to customer specifications.
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and serviceable.
- Identify and resolve machining issues to maximise productivity and quality.
- Work in accordance with company quality procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate production records where required.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience as a Gear Cutter and/or Thread and Worm Grinder.
- Experience operating
Gleason P60 and P90 gear cutting machines.
- Experience using
Doimak Thread / Worm Grinders .
- Experience operating
Matrix Thread Grinders .
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of precision machining and tight tolerances.
- Competent in the use of precision measuring equipment.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.
- Experience within aerospace, automotive, defence, or precision engineering industries.
- Experience using Wenzel Gear Measuring CMM equipment for gear inspection and measurement.
- Knowledge of gear inspection processes and gear geometry.
- Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing practices.
