Design and scale secure APIs, data pipelines, and core platform services. You’ll architect solutions that power AI-driven compliance tools used across global jurisdictions.
About Datox: No one builds a business hoping to spend hours dealing with regulatory reporting. But for investment firms and financial institutions, compliance is not optional – it’s essential. Yet, most reporting tools still feel like outdated spreadsheets wrapped in dashboards. They’re slow, brittle, and disconnected from the real-world complexity that businesses face today. Teams are left juggling formats, tracking requirements across jurisdictions, and hoping they didn’t miss a critical detail that could lead to fines or delays. At Datox, we’re on a mission to change that. We help businesses simplify and automate their regulatory reporting – across the UK, EU, and beyond – with a platform powered by AI, built for collaboration, and designed for humans. We’re a growing, VC-backed team of designers, engineers, product thinkers, and domain experts driven by one belief: that regulatory work shouldn’t feel like punishment. With the right tools, it can be streamlined, intuitive, and even empowering. Join us as we build the future of regulatory reporting.
The Role: We’re hiring a Backend Engineer to help design, build, and scale the core services that power Datox from high-throughput data ingestion (PDFs, spreadsheets, APIs) to AI-powered transformation and multi-jurisdictional report generation (AIFMD, Form PF, MAS PFAR, etc.). You’ll work closely with product, data, and AI teams to ship reliable services, harden our security posture, and keep performance snappy as we grow.
Location: London (hybrid). Type: Full-time. Level: Mid–Senior (we’re flexible for the right person).
What You’ll Do:
- Build core services: Design and implement FastAPI/Python microservices with PostgreSQL that ingest, transform, and validate complex financial datasets at scale.
- Model data the right way: Own schemas, migrations (Alembic), and performance tuning (indexes, query plans) for transactional and analytics-friendly workloads.
- Ship AI-powered workflows: Integrate with agentic/LLM services (e.g., LangGraph/async workers) to automate extraction, classification, and jurisdictional conversions.
- Own reliability: Add observability (structured logs, metrics, tracing), write resilient jobs/queues, and lead incident-ready runbooks and SLIs/SLOs.
- Harden security: Contribute to SOC2/ISO27001 practices (secrets, least privilege, audit trails, PII handling, threat modeling).
- Automate everything: Improve CI/CD (tests, quality gates, GitHub Actions), containerization (Docker), and environment parity.
- Collaborate & iterate: Partner with PM/Design to scope, prototype, and ship user-visible impact quickly; write clear docs and PRs.
Bonus Points:
- Experience working in fintech, regtech, or data-heavy platforms.
- Familiarity with European or UK regulatory frameworks (FCA, ESMA, etc.).
- Previous experience with financial data, reporting, or RegTech products.
- Hands‑on with LLM/agent frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain) or retrieval/validation patterns.
- Built document/Excel/PDF ingestion pipelines or worked with unstructured → structured transformations.
