We're currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to play a key role in the delivery of a £30 million data centre retrofit project in Slough. This is a critical position within a live or partially live environment, requiring someone who understands the challenges of upgrading and integrating mechanical systems while maintaining operational integrity. The role demands a hands-on leader with a strong background in mission-critical or highly serviced environments.
The Role
You will take ownership of all mechanical construction activities on site, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of mechanical packages within a constrained retrofit environment. Working closely with project leadership, consultants, and subcontractors, you will be responsible for coordinating works across multiple phases, ensuring minimal disruption to existing operations where applicable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing day-to-day mechanical construction activities across HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC systems, pipework, and associated infrastructure
- Coordinating retrofit and upgrade works within a live or phased data centre environment
- Driving programme delivery, ensuring works are completed in line with key milestones and sequencing constraints
- Overseeing subcontractors to ensure compliance with design, specifications, and quality standards
- Implementing and enforcing HSE standards, particularly within high-risk and operational environments
- Supporting and managing commissioning readiness, including system checks, pressure testing, and pre-commissioning activities
- Working closely with electrical, CSA, and commissioning teams to ensure integrated delivery
- Identifying and mitigating risks associated with retrofit works, access, and system tie-ins
- Attending and leading site meetings, progress reviews, and coordination workshops
- Reporting progress, risks, and performance to senior project stakeholders
