An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Staff BI & Data Engineer to join a financial services business, helping to develop and improve its data engineering and reporting capabilities.

We're looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in Azure Databricks, Unity Catalog and Power BI who can take ownership of technical delivery while understanding the commercial and operational needs behind the data.

You’ll work across the full data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation through to semantic modelling and reporting. The focus is on building dependable data solutions, improving existing processes and delivering insights that stakeholders can trust.

This is a hands-on role with scope to influence technical decisions, introduce better ways of working and support the development of colleagues. You’ll need to be comfortable investigating complex problems, challenging existing approaches and taking responsibility for delivering solutions.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design, develop and optimise data pipelines using Azure Databricks, PySpark, SQL, ADF and ADLS Gen2.
  • Build and maintain governed lakehouse solutions using Delta Lake, medallion architecture and Unity Catalog.
  • Develop and enhance Power BI semantic models, DAX measures and row-level security.
  • Work with business stakeholders to define meaningful KPIs across marketing, customer acquisition and contact-centre operations.
  • Improve existing data processes, addressing performance, reliability, data quality and maintainability.
  • Take ownership of technical challenges, evaluating options and recommending practical solutions.
  • Promote good engineering practices through testing, documentation, version control and CI/CD.
  • Share technical knowledge, mentor colleagues and contribute to engineering standards.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven production experience with Azure Databricks, PySpark and Delta Lake, including hands-on Unity Catalog governance, access controls and permissions management.
  • Strong Power BI development skills, including semantic modelling, DAX, RLS and performance tuning.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience working with Azure data services.
  • Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions within performance marketing and/or contact-centre environments.
  • An understanding of commercial and operational KPIs such as conversion rates, acquisition costs, campaign performance, agent productivity and service levels.
  • A track record of independently owning data engineering and BI solutions end to end, making technical decisions, resolving complex problems and driving improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to make technical decisions independently.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric would be advantageous.
