Senior VAT Manager – Greater Manchester, Surrey or London – Hybrid – Permanent 37.5 hours per week – £70,000 - £80,000 per annum Company cultures & job summary Our client is looking for a Senior VAT Manager to take full ownership of VAT compliance and advisory across UK and European entities. You'll need deep UK VAT expertise, hands-on experience managing end-to-end compliance, and the confidence to advise on complex transactions. This is a broad, senior role with real visibility across a large multinational group. You ideally should have experience working for large corporations and have good stakeholder management experience. Working Patterns and location – Hybrid – 2 days per week on site (more flexible working options available) The Key Responsibilities of a Senior VAT Manager: * Own end-to-end UK VAT compliance, including review, approval and MTD submission of returns. * Review and support VAT return submissions for Irish, French, German and Swiss entities. * Manage and review Joint Operation VAT returns and provide associated advisory. * Lead HMRC liaison, including all compliance interactions and SAO reporting for UK VAT. * Advise the business on VAT implications of major projects, cross-border supplies and joint operations. * Monitor legislative changes and communicate VAT impacts to relevant stakeholders. * Develop and maintain VAT governance frameworks, policies and process documentation. * Identify and implement process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency and accuracy. Below is a list of Key Skills required for a Senior VAT Manager, however you will not be expected to have everything: * Professional tax qualification — CTA, ACA, ACCA, CA or equivalent. * Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT legislation, HMRC guidance and Making Tax Digital. * Experience managing VAT compliance end-to-end within a large or multinational group. * Experience advising on complex VAT matters including joint ventures, international services and CIS Domestic Reverse Charge. * Proven track record managing HMRC relationships and handling SAO compliance obligations. * Ability to manage and instruct external VAT advisers and review their outputs. * Commercially aware with the ability to deliver clear, practical advice on complex transactions. * The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential: * Experience with European indirect tax compliance across jurisdictions such as Ireland, France or Germany. * Exposure to Middle Eastern indirect tax compliance and advisory. * Background in Big 4 or mid-tier accountancy practice. * Experience advising on land and property VAT or capital goods scheme. * Ad hoc customs and trade advisory experience.
