Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support maintenance, facility engineering improvements and decommissioning projects across their Hampshire site. They require a Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years experience in regulated environments. DV Clearance is required, so you must already hold this to be considered. Working Patterns and location – Fully on site.
The Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer:
- Identify and define the minimum critical mechanical asset set required to support safe decommissioning operations.
- Develop mechanical asset baselines and map system dependencies down to subsystem level.
- Assign RAG status to all critical mechanical assets, assessing reliability, obsolescence risk and remaining operational life.
- Define proportionate improvement actions for Amber and Red rated mechanical assets, including repair, replacement and spares strategies.
- Deliver tasks from the Asset Improvement Plan and Asset Engineering Order Book.
- Identify and isolate redundant mechanical systems and implement practical COTS solutions where appropriate.
- Develop work packs and support mechanical engineering delivery within live operational facilities.
- Translate operational mechanical engineering issues into deliverable, risk-proportionate solutions.
Key Skills required for a Mechanical Engineer:
- 10+ years' experience in facility engineering or project engineering roles within highly regulated environments.
- Proven background working on operational facilities in nuclear, defence, process or similar industries.
- Practical hands-on experience with mechanical systems, including plant, equipment, piping, HVAC, pumps, valves or associated infrastructure.
- Experience developing work packs and supporting engineering delivery in live facilities.
- Ability to translate complex operational issues into clear, deliverable engineering solutions.
- Experience conducting RAG assessments on assets, including obsolescence and failure mechanism analysis.
- Comfortable working across operations and project delivery interfaces.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
- Experience undertaking or supporting Authorised or Area Control Manager (ACM) responsibilities.
- Background in nuclear decommissioning or nuclear operations specifically.
- Familiarity with asset improvement planning and engineering order book management.
- Experience with ventilation simplification, HVAC optimisation or infrastructure decoupling activities.
