Our client is a medium sized consultancy looking to support their clients on both on-prem and cloud environments. They are seeking a skilled Infrastructure Engineer, who will play a hands-on part in building, maintaining, and supporting clients’ core systems and networks. From servers and cloud services to networking and automation tooling, you’ll ensure their infrastructure remains secure, scalable, and highly available.

Working Patterns: This role is based full time on site in Cheltenham.

The Key Responsibilities of an Infrastructure Engineer:

  • Design, implement, and support physical and virtual server environments.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid setups.
  • Administer enterprise networking components including firewalls, VPNs, switches, routing, and load balancing.
  • Maintain identity and access management systems and enforce security best practices.
  • Automate routine operational tasks using scripting or configuration management tools.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting systems to ensure performance and reliability.
  • Support disaster recovery strategies, backups, and business continuity operations.
  • Troubleshoot critical infrastructure issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, cybersecurity, and software teams to support ongoing projects.

Key Skills required for the Infrastructure Engineer:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an infrastructure role.
  • Strong background in Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
  • Proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with monitoring and log management platforms (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, Nagios).
  • Experience managing cloud platforms, especially AWS or Azure.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and best practices (Least Privilege, Zero Trust).
  • Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code skills (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with storage systems (SAN/NAS) and backup/recovery tools.
