Recruitment Consultant for the Defence and National Security sectors

Infrastructure Engineer – Cheltenham – Permanent (40 hours per week) – £54,000 – £60,000 per annum

Our client is supporting the delivery of Infrastructure to commercial clients and is looking for an enthusiastic Infrastructure Engineer with a passion for Infrastructure as Code to join their team!

The ideal candidate will be passionate about automation and have Ansible experience or similar skills such as Terraform, Chef, Pucket or Packer.

This role covers a broad range of responsibilities such as Systems Administration and Networking and they are looking for someone who can mentor/lead small teams and projects as required.

Working Patterns: 3-4 Days on site in Cheltenham town centre, the other days can be done remotely.

The Key Responsibilities of an Infrastructure Engineer

• Provide broad Infrastructure design and development to commercial clients
• Implement and develop Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools using Ansible
• Support the planning, design, and implementation of IT infrastructure solutions (physical and virtual)
• Ensure timely delivery of solutions, aligned to customer requirements
• Provide ongoing maintenance and support of deployed IT infrastructure and systems administration
• Monitor and maintain infrastructure systems by backups, patch‑management/vulnerability management, and software/hardware upgrades
• Create, develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all deployed, monitored, and supported infrastructure
• Provide networking support
• Develop and maintain scripts and/or automation tools
• Lead/mentor across small teams and projects as required

Key Skills required for the Infrastructure Engineer (you will not be expected to have everything)

• Infrastructure design and development within a commercial environment
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible/AWX, Packer, Puppet, Terraform or Chef
• Scripting tools such as Python, PowerShell, Bash
• Networking technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP etc)
• Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper‑V)
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools
• Some technical leadership or managerial experience (or desire to learn) would be a bonus
