Our client is looking for an experienced Commercial Lead to drive the development of an incentivised collaboration mechanism for a major SMR nuclear programme.

This is a senior role requiring deep expertise in alliancing, NEC contracts, and complex infrastructure procurement.

It's a genuinely unique opportunity to shape something high-impact from the ground up.

Working Patterns and location – Remote – occasional days on site per month (Cheshire)

The Key Responsibilities of a Commercial Lead

  • Lead development of the Incentivised Collaboration Agreement, including incentive and performance mechanisms.
  • Act as deputy to the Head of Commercial, managing multiple sub-workstreams and stakeholder inputs.
  • Design and deliver market testing activity, evaluating findings to inform commercial strategy.
  • Ensure all commercial assurance and governance processes are followed across the full lifecycle.
  • Lead development of negotiation strategies aligned to programme critical success factors.
  • Manage external contractors and consultants, ensuring budgets are controlled appropriately.
  • Support commercial reporting and business case development for senior leadership review.
  • Collaborate across Finance, Legal, PMO and Technical functions to deliver joined-up commercial solutions.

Below is a list of Key Skills required for a Commercial Lead, however you will not be expected to have everything:

  • Experience designing or working within an alliance mechanism on a major infrastructure programme.
  • Extensive experience with the NEC suite of contracts, including drafting and negotiation.
  • Proven track record delivering procurement activity in excess of £50 million at a senior level.
  • Experience in nuclear, construction, engineering or critical national infrastructure programmes.
  • Strong ability to design collaborative delivery and incentive mechanisms for complex programmes.
  • Experience overseeing cost estimation and development of pricing and incentive strategies.
  • Ability to lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams and senior stakeholders under pressure.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
  • Experience working to Government governance processes including CAB, Cabinet Office and HMT.
  • Experience delivering procurements under Public Contract Regulations or the Procurement Act.
  • Experience leading business case development in line with HMT Green Book methodology.
