The SMT Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Loughborough, responsible for operating and monitoring surface mount technology (SMT) equipment in a production environment. Day-to-day tasks include setting up SMT machines, loading components and feeders, running production batches, and ensuring accurate placement and soldering of components on PCBAs. The role involves inspecting boards for quality, performing basic troubleshooting and adjustments, and escalating technical issues when necessary. The SMT Operator will follow work instructions, production schedules, and safety procedures, while maintaining clean, organized workstations and accurate production records. Collaboration with production, quality, and engineering teams is essential to meet delivery targets and uphold quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Proven SMT skills, including operating SMT pick-and-place machines, handling feeders, and performing basic equipment setup and adjustments.
- Experience in PCB assembly processes, including soldering, reflow profiling, and visual inspection of electronic assemblies for defects.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings, work instructions, bills of materials, and production documentation accurately.
- Strong attention to detail, quality-focused mindset, and familiarity with working to ISO or similar quality standards.
- Basic understanding of electronics components and manufacturing workflows in a low to medium volume, high mix environment.
- Good teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively on-site in a fast-paced production setting.
- Comfort with using computers and production software for job setup, data entry, and tracking work orders.
- Previous experience as an SMT Operator is a must for this role.
