At Datalex we are currently engineering the next evolution of our product, our platform, our infrastructure, and the deployment capabilities that tie them all together. Not only will the new solutions allow our existing customers to deliver additional functionality faster, they will also reduce the time-to-market for new customers and align to meet the demands of the modern travel ecommerce world for years to come.

To achieve this goal, we are building a highly-skilled, cross-functional team to spearhead the efforts and help optimize Datalex’s operational capabilities (meaning to build a modern continuous delivery model, producing a solution that is optimized to deploy and run on the AWS platform).

The team will be comprised of technologists with a wide area of skills required to build, deploy, run, and support enterprise-grade, production systems. You will be tasked with improving, and measured on, key deployment and operation metrics such as deployment time/frequency, site availability, and downtime required per release.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain the company’s AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of all applications and services deployed in the AWS cloud.
  • Automate the provisioning and management of AWS resources.
  • Monitor the utilization of all AWS resources and take action to optimize cost and performance.
  • Design and implement security controls to protect data and systems in the AWS cloud.
  • Perform regular backups of all data stored in the AWS cloud.
  • Respond to incidents and perform root cause analysis to prevent future outages.
  • Collaborate with other teams to plan and execute projects that require changes to the AWS infrastructure.
  • Write technical documentation for all aspects of the AWS infrastructure.
  • Stay up-to-date on new features and services offered by AWS.

  • Apache, Tomcat, JBoss.
  • Oracle, MongoDB, Memcached, Kafka.
  • Python.
  • Jenkins with a focus on pipelines.
  • Atlassian suite Bitbucket/Jira/Confluence.
  • API management tools such as APIGee.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An in-depth understanding of software development practices.
  • 8+ years’ experience working on AWS platform.
  • AWS certification(s) being able to demonstrate practical application of your knowledge.
  • Automation and Infrastructure as Code are central to how you operate.
  • In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, networking, storage, and security.
  • Have experience building and supporting high performance applications.
  • Have demonstrable experience and expertise in managing both traditional virtual machines, but also Kubernetes.
  • Have proven knowledge and strong opinions on best practices around infrastructure management on the AWS platform.
  • Kubernetes, Docker / Containers.
  • Linux is the platform OS you will work on so you need to be a power user.
  • TCP, DNS, SSL, Load balancing (HAproxy, F5).
  • AWS EC2 and managed services.

Skills Desired

  • Practical experience with DevOps concepts: CI/CD, ChatOps, etc.
  • Familiar with Tomcat, JBoss and session management between web containers.
  • Scripting levels sufficient for sysadmin, deployments, and API interaction.
  • Running java applications in containers at scale in production.
  • Understanding of when to use containers and when to use VMs.
  • Full-stack application and performance troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience building low latency systems (in AWS preferred).
  • Experience with design and management of applications across the areas of:
    • Minimizing single points of failure;
    • Zero down-time upgrades;
    • Auto scaling applications that have cold start challenges;
    • Distributed applications;
    • Implementing and using metrics to make data driven decisions;
    • Systems that negate the need for people to log into servers.
