The Language Tools team enables hundreds of Datadog backend engineers to build, test, and package secure, high-quality code. Our success is measured by their productivity and happiness.

They use the tools we develop and support several times a day across various environments, including dev, CI, and in diverse repositories—ranging from large polyglot or monorepos to smaller service-specific repositories—in languages like Go, Python, Java, Rust, and TypeScript. We orchestrate our builds using Bazel or industry-standard tools depending on the repository.

As a manager on the team, you will take ownership of one of our areas of responsibility. The team is growing rapidly, adapting to Datadog’s expansion and taking over repositories and languages previously managed by their users. As our first manager in Europe, you will represent us there.

What You’ll Do:

• Manage 4 to 7 senior engineers, helping them achieve objectives and develop their careers.
• Contribute to the team by writing and reviewing design documents and code.
• Engage with stakeholders at various levels within Datadog to understand developer needs.
• Make data-driven, risk-aware decisions to solve ambiguous problems, impacting the velocity of hundreds of engineers.
• Engage with the open source community when needed, influencing or contributing to projects like Bazel or reporting issues with Go releases.

Who You Are:

• A passionate manager who inspires engineers.
• An expert in one or more of the relevant languages or build systems.
• A well-rounded engineer with a broad understanding of software projects built, tested, and packaged with our tools.
• A clear, empathetic communicator who values diverse opinions and synthesizes plans effectively.
• Ideally experienced with large codebases.
