We are looking for an experienced Data Protection & AI Governance Consultant to support a well-established UK technology organisation on an initial 4 month contract. This is a remote role, working as part of a small data protection and AI governance team. The successful candidate will help operationalise privacy and responsible AI frameworks across products, services, suppliers and internal business processes.

The role would suit someone with strong hands-on data protection advisory experience, ideally gained within a software, SaaS, technology or product-led environment.

The Role

  • Leading supplier reviews for AI systems and privacy, including reviewing contractual and technical controls
  • Supporting supplier assurance activity and signing off outcomes within agreed thresholds
  • Working with business stakeholders to identify and close gaps in Article 30 records/documentation
  • Leading DPIAs, LIAs and AI impact assessments
  • Reviewing low to medium risk data protection and AI use cases, recommending mitigations and go-live readiness measures
  • Providing pragmatic, solution-focused advice on privacy law, governance frameworks and internal policies
  • Supporting the wider compliance function with data protection, AI governance and related compliance projects
  • Helping to embed responsible AI and privacy-by-design principles across products, services and business processes

Key Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in data protection advisory and privacy governance roles
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, DPA 2018, PECR and privacy governance frameworks
  • Experience of DPIAs, LIAs, Article 30 documentation and supplier privacy reviews
  • Working knowledge of AI governance, responsible AI principles and AI risk assessment
  • Ability to operationalise governance frameworks and drive adoption across a business
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise product, engineering, technology, legal, security and operational teams
  • Comfortable balancing regulatory risk with commercial and innovation-led priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to provide clear, practical recommendations
  • Experience working in a software house, SaaS provider or technology-led organisation would be highly desirable

Qualifications

  • CIPP/E is strongly preferred
  • CIPM would also be beneficial
  • CIPT, ISO 27701, ISO/NIST AI governance or related AI governance training would be advantageous
