Our client are seeking an experienced Practical Driver Trainer to be responsible for the hands‑on, practical delivery of driver training and assessment that supports and mentors drivers throughout their career.
The Practical Driver Trainer carries out driving assessments across HGV and grey fleet vehicles (pick‑ups and vans), teaches load securing, and delivers the practical and in‑cab elements of driver training.
The role applies and reinforces safe systems of work through the training delivered, to enhance and improve the standards of all drivers.
Duties
- To design, develop and deliver customised structured practical and in‑vehicle training modules applicable to the business.
- To carry out driving assessments and practical training that support drivers throughout their career within the business.
- Apply and reinforce safe systems of work through the practical training delivered to drivers.
- Teach load securing to drivers across the vehicle fleet.
- Prepare for and manage internal and external audits.
- Carry out driving assessments for both HGV and grey fleet vehicles (pick‑ups and vans)
- Assessment of drivers during the recruitment and selection process
- Train drivers on load securing
- Train drivers to perform pre‑drive checks
- Support the delivery of driver inductions, including the practical and in‑cab elements
- Deliver a high standard of practical training to drivers at all levels
- Apply and reinforce safe systems of work for driver processes through on‑road and practical training
- Support investigations by delivering additional practical training identified from root cause findings
- Support practical retraining identified through driver performance and vehicle telematics
- Feedback assessment outcomes and training records to the Driver Trainer to maintain compliance to regulatory and internal standards
- Collaborate with key business departments to help support raising standards
- Support the Health & Safety of all colleagues in the workplace
- Full current, clean, UK driving licence, including the relevant HGV (LGV) categories
- DVSA Approved Driving Instructor or DVSA Fleet Driver Trainer qualification
- Previous qualifications to support the delivery of training
- The ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
- SAFED driver training experience
- Train the Trainer qualification, such as PTTLS or equivalent
- Health and Safety qualification, such as IOSH Working Safely
- Knowledge or experience of ADR and/or the carriage of dangerous goods
- Knowledge of Operator Licence compliance
- Road Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence
