At Databricks, our core values are at the heart of everything we do.

A culture of proactiveness and a customer-centric mindset guides us in creating a unified platform that makes data and AI accessible to everyone.

We aim to inspire our customers to make informed decisions that push their business forward.

We provide a user-friendly and intuitive platform that makes it easy to turn insights into action and fosters a culture of creativity, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

You will be a vital part of this mission, using your technical expertise to demonstrate how our Data Intelligence Platform can help customers solve their complex data and AI challenges.

Digital native companies are born in the cloud and build data and AI products at their core, which makes them among the most technical and demanding buyers we work with.

As a Senior Solutions Engineer on our Emerging Enterprise Digital Native team, you will win new logos across the UK & Ireland by proving, hands-on, that the platform solves their hardest problems.

You'll work with a collaborative, customer-focused team that values innovation and creativity.

Join us in our quest to change how people work with data and make a better world!

Reporting to the Manager, Field Engineering.

The impact you will have

  • Partner with an Account Executive and a Senior Solutions Architect to win new digital-native logos across your UK & Ireland territory, and own the technical win.
  • Run hands-on evaluations and proofs-of-concept that get founders, CTOs, and lead engineers excited.

Show the Data Intelligence Platform working against their real data and workloads, not slideware.

  • Meet technical buyers on their own ground across modern data engineering (Spark, Delta, streaming), machine learning, and Generative AI, and integrate cleanly with their existing cloud and open-source stack.
  • Move at start-up speed: qualify quickly, prove value early, and land in a way that sets up expansion.
  • Make the technical and commercial case against competing tools, including cloud data warehouses, open-source stacks, and hyperscaler services.
  • Demonstrate our Builder Culture and our principle of "show, not tell", supported by the latest AI tooling, to inspire customers on the art of the possible.
  • Contribute to Databricks' technical community by developing customer-facing collateral and joining workshops, hackathons, seminars, and meet-ups.
  • Develop technically and in pre-sales, with the goal of operating independently as a Solutions Architect.

What we look for

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled individual to join our UK&I Emerging Enterprise / Digital Native Solutions Engineering team, which focuses on winning new digital-native and high-growth technology customers.

This role is based in the London office, with regular collaboration across the UK&I region.

Core Technical Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in technical pre-sales, consultancy, or engineering, ideally with data-native or high-growth technology companies.
  • Proficiency in a core programming language such as Python, SQL, Scala, or Java, and a willingness to learn (or existing knowledge of) Spark.
  • Familiarity with a core data or AI domain: modern data engineering, streaming, machine learning, or Generative AI (e. g. RAG, fine-tuning, LLMOps).
  • Experience with the modern data stack and open-source data tooling, and with at least one major public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Hands-on expertise in designing and delivering proofs-of-concept (Po Cs).
  • Enthusiasm for building with AI-based development tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Databricks Assistant / Genie.

Pre-Sales & Customer-Facing Skills

  • Proven ability to engage customers in a technical sales capacity: building a narrative, challenging assumptions, finding the real pain, and driving to a clear, tangible outcome.
  • Comfort communicating both technical and business value to diverse audiences, from engineers to founders and executives.
  • A customer-centric mindset with a passion for building client relationships and internal partnerships with account teams.
  • Energized by a high-velocity, new-logo motion and comfortable with ambiguity rather than a fixed account set.

Logistics

  • Ability to commute to the London office regularly.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20-30% of the time across UK&I for customer visits.

Nice to Have

  • Experience selling to or working at start-ups, scaleups, or ISVs.
  • Databricks or other relevant Cloud/Data certifications.

How to prepare for a job interview at Databricks

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Databricks uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
