A leading UK financial services firm is building its Lakehouse platform from scratch in Databricks, Unity Catalogue, medallion architecture and the Data Analyst they hire now will shape the foundations everything else is built on.

If you've spent your career doing genuine data analysis work, profiling source, producing mapping documentation, pinning down what a KPI actually means when three people in a room can't agree - this is the role that uses all of.

THE OPPORTUNITY

You’ll be one of the first specialist hires into a new Data Programme team, working alongside an experienced Technical Programme Lead on delivery that feeds directly into executive‑level reporting. The programme has real momentum — tooling decisions have been made, the backlog is forming, and two priority dashboards aligned to the firm's strategic missions are already in flight.

Day one looks like this: understanding source nobody has fully documented, profiling relational databases, building data dictionaries, and working with stakeholders to translate high‑level dashboard asks into tight, technically sound specifications. Alongside that, you’ll be helping to establish Unity Catalogue as the metadata and lineage layer for the entire platform.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Strong SQL – comfortable writing exploratory queries against unfamiliar schemas to understand structure, and candidate keys
  • Hands‑on experience producing data mapping documents, data dictionaries, and business requirement specifications in a Data Warehouse or Lakehouse environment
  • A working understanding of medallion architecture and how data moves from source through to BI consumption
  • Azure DevOps – confident managing a data backlog within an Agile delivery team
  • Financial services background – banking, wealth management, or similar regulated environments
  • Confidence – you can facilitate a difficult room, drive consensus on a KPI definition, and know when to push and when to step back

A BONUS IF YOU HAVE

  • Familiarity with Databricks, particularly Unity Catalogue
  • Experience with ER Studio or similar metadata tooling
  • An understanding of how Power BI consumes data and what good reporting specifications look like
