This Greater London government partnership is acting as a strategic coordination point for accessing and using large-scale residential data across London. By improving how data is shared, governed, and used, we are looking for a Senior Information Governance Officer to design and implement practical, proportionate information governance standards that enable effective data sharing while meeting legal and regulatory requirements.

Working at the intersection of operations, data, and delivery, you will help ensure that data is handled securely, responsibly, and efficiently across organisational boundaries. This is also a hands-on role for someone who can translate information governance principles into workable delivery approaches, embedding “IG by design” into projects and upskilling teams along the way.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and maintaining end-to-end data flows across complex, multi-organisation environments
  • Mapping data ownership, accountability, risks, and dependencies
  • Advising on information governance frameworks, controls, and operating models
  • Supporting DPIAs, data sharing agreements, retention schedules, and assurance activities
  • Providing expert advice on data protection, records management, data sharing, security, and data quality
  • Embedding information governance into project delivery and lifecycle documentation
  • Acting as a trusted IG advisor to delivery teams and senior stakeholders
  • Developing practical guidance, templates, and training to make good IG easy to apply
  • Working closely with partners across London local government, technology, legal, and data teams

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

  • Strong practical experience in Information Governance, including data protection and records management
  • Experience delivering complex data or information-led projects
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into clear, pragmatic actions
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experience coaching or upskilling teams
  • Strong risk management and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Relevant IG or data protection qualifications (e.g. IAPP, IG Practitioner)
  • Experience in public sector or other regulated environments
  • Familiarity with agile or hybrid delivery models
  • Experience working with data platforms, analytics, or pan-London initiatives
