Overview: Data Mapping Engineer – To define the source and target object modelling and lead the data mapping between source and target systems.

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (FTC)

Duration: 12 months

Start Date: Jan 2026

Current day rate and contract type:

Business Context: This is a greenfield data mapping exercise — no validated source-to-target mapping specification currently exists. The role requires designing the object model alignment between legacy platforms (RIBS and Milvis) and the target Avaloq Opus instance, which is still being built out for the CI business unit. The migration is complicated by 40+ years of legacy client, banking, and custody data, requiring strong data modelling and interpretation skills.

Summary: We require someone who has lived and breathed, been hands on in leading and pulling together a data migration mapping specification/document for a wealth migration platform. Usual legacy platform migration to new target platform and the complication that brings with having data that is 40 years old on the legacy side. Mapping spec, object modelling, data modelling experience. Avaloq and wealth management experience would be advantageous. Clear and crisp stakeholder management and the ability to drive a decision.

  • Define and document source and target object models and how they align.
  • Act as the bridge between raw data sources and actionable insights, ensuring that data is accurately transformed, integrated, and routed to the right destinations.
  • Create accurate and easy to understand mapping specification documents for use by developers and for business teams to consume and sign off against.
  • Collaborate with IT and business SMEs to define mapping specifications.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy throughout the mapping process.
  • Assist in defect triage and root cause analysis where mappings are deemed to be incorrect.
  • Own necessary updates to mapping documents with robust version control and detailed explanation of changes.
  • Build and develop relationships with IT and business stakeholders.
  • Aid and assist both ETL developers and test teams in their requests for source data extracts from IT team.
  • Lead workshops and draw decisions to swift conclusion regarding data mapping and golden source.
  • Lead the structural alignment of legacy RIBS and Milvis data models with Avaloq Opus, ensuring conceptual, logical, and physical consistency across platforms.
  • Engage with Avaloq platform SMEs to validate assumptions about target data structures, behaviours, constraints, and how new CI business-unit functionality will be built.
  • Represent mapping proposals to architecture and business teams, resolving object-model ambiguity and obtaining alignment on the proposed structure before detailed mapping begins.
  • Act as the senior mapping authority for the team, providing direction to the incoming junior Data Mapping Analyst and ensuring consistent modelling standards across outputs.
  • Work closely with the ETL developer to unblock development work early, clarifying modelling decisions so ETL design is not delayed by mapping uncertainty.
  • Manage iterative refinement of models and mapping specifications as the target platform evolves, maintaining full version control and clear rationale for structural decisions.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Experience mapping into non-mature or in-build platforms, where target data structures are evolving and require architectural interpretation.
  • Ability to analyse, rationalise, and model poorly structured or inconsistent legacy datasets spanning multiple decades.
  • Proven ability to drive structural decisions and achieve stakeholder alignment where multiple interpretations or source-of-truth options exist.
  • Comfortable presenting and defending mapping and modelling proposals to architecture, IT, business SMEs, and Avaloq teams.
  • Competent SQL user capable of profiling data, validating mapping logic, and supporting defect investigations (not as a developer, but confident enough to interrogate datasets).
