ROLE PURPOSE

This is an opportunity for an experienced finance professional who is ready to take ownership of monthly management accounts, reconciliations, KPI reporting, margin analysis, forecasting and wider business reporting across both companies. This is not a traditional process-only finance role. You will work closely with senior leadership, external finance support and the wider management team, providing clear financial information and commercial insight to support decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for two companies, and support preparation of annual financial accounts.
  • Assist in the review of monthly performance against budget, identifying and investigating key variances and preparing the monthly reporting pack.
  • Post and review journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating any issues on a timely basis.
  • Manage month-end close processes and complete P&L and balance sheet reviews.
  • Reconcile sales, bank, payroll, stock and supplier data across both companies.
  • Manage intercompany accounting.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns (both UK and Ireland), cash-flow reports and forecasts, working with external advisers where appropriate.
  • Analyse sales, gross margin, stock movement, costs and profitability.
  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly KPI reports for management.
  • Identify margin leakage, cost issues, risks and performance trends, and recommend appropriate action.
  • Support and contribute to budgeting, forecasting and business planning across both companies, including detailed variance analysis.
  • Business partner with the commercial team and wider non-finance colleagues to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Work closely with the accounts payable and procurement team to ensure controls are adhered to, timelines are met and issues resolved in a timely manner.
  • Build strong relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and support to finance and administrative team members.
  • Review and improve existing accounting processes and controls to drive efficiencies, compliance and best practice, using Excel, system reports, automation and AI-assisted tools where appropriate.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Membership of a professional accountancy body (ACA, CIMA, ACCA).
  • Ideally at least 12 months' relevant experience in management accounts, finance, accounts, audit or commercial analysis.
  • Practical experience of management accounts, journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and month-end processes.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to work with senior management and non-finance colleagues.
  • Commercial curiosity - not just processing numbers, but understanding what they mean.
  • An interest in using Excel, systems, automation or AI tools to improve accuracy, reduce manual work and produce better management information.

WHY THIS ROLE?

This role offers the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the finances of two growing companies while developing into a commercially focused finance partner. It would suit someone who wants more than a routine accounts role and is ready to build broader experience in reporting, analysis, systems improvement and commercial decision support.
