Intelligence Officer in Bristol

The client provides the single point of entry and first point of contact for internal and external partners. The team provides oversight and management of sensitive intelligence functions, maximising our capability to act more effectively in support of tactical and strategic priorities. It allows us to minimise threat, risk and harm and ensures our compliance with legislation. A critical function is to scope, develop and utilise intelligence in direct response to complex criminal activity.

Specific role responsibilities:

• Research, evaluate, develop and enhance scoping products which have been written based around operational priorities for the department.
• Gather and de-conflict intelligence from a variety of sources, producing comprehensive Intelligence Assessments which are used to inform the Tasking process.
• Identify intelligence gaps and set intelligence requirements.
• Work as part of a flexible and professional workforce within a secure environment.
• Manage information that is available to ensure that it is up to date and accurate.
• Utilise Open Source capabilities in order to enhance intelligence products.
• Apply for and handle covertly obtained material in accordance with identified policy and process.
• Preparation and maintenance of both RIPA and IPA applications.
• Review of covertly obtained material.
• Ability to work with a number of partner agencies, key stakeholders and sensitive equities in order to establish efficient working relationships.
• A high degree of computer literacy; utilising a variety of computer systems and applications from across the Regions varying platforms, as well as digital data, applications and tools.
• Utilise good communication skills in order to work effectively as part of a team, providing an excellent intelligence response.
• Work towards and support the Intelligence Professionalisation programme. Gain accreditation by completing the national occupational standards (NOS) for the role and inclusion on the National Intelligence Register.
• Support the wider department with the on-call function.

Essential qualities for the role:

• Knowledge of intelligence systems and processes.
• Working knowledge of RIPA 2000.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Sensitivity to the needs of diverse communities served by the team.
• Initiative and innovation when developing intelligence products.
• Knowledge of covert policing techniques.
• Potential to undertake sensitive enquiries with limited supervision and therefore maintain the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.
• Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and NPCC Guidance on the Management of Police Information (MOPI).
• Knowledge of police systems and policing; current legislation, policies and procedures (e.g. GDPR, Human Rights Act, CPIA).
• Work effectively with minimum supervision whilst remaining team focused.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and produce accurate work within deadlines.
• Able to evidence self-motivation and use of own initiative.
• Excellent time management skills and a good co-ordinator.
• You will work on a shift pattern which encompasses cover between 0700 - 1600 and weekends with a level of flexibility incorporated.
• There is a requirement to work flexibly at times.
