We have an excellent opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to join our Trading Underwriting team at ARAG. Reporting to the Trading Underwriting Team Manager, you will work alongside the wider team in support of the BTE insurance portfolio. This is a great role for a candidate that is looking to begin their career in an underwriting environment and eventually progress to becoming an Underwriter.

Within this role, you will hold responsibility for providing the Trading Underwriters with the support required in the management of our ongoing business partners. You can expect to specialise in the processing and underwriting support for the BTE portfolio, including scheme business and standalone risk across all distributions. In addition, you will provide support to members of the Underwriting department in areas of underwriting operations, procedures, policy endorsements, wording and underwriting queries and renewals.

There will be a strong focus on the development of general underwriting knowledge as well as key support on some demanding underwriting accounts. You will play an important role in the overall underwriting process and will communicate within the business and across departments where required.

We are looking for applicants who have an evident passion for delivery, ensuring that good customer outcomes are at the centre of your decision-making process. Communication and relationship-building skills are therefore key to this position in order to build effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. No direct experience in Underwriting is required to be successful in this role as this is a progressive opportunity, with full support and training provided; however, it would be advantageous to have some experience in a professional environment, especially within an Insurance or Financial Services background. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a motivation for a career in Underwriting.

In addition to the above, we are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining an accurate, high-quality output
  • Desire to work in a controlled Underwriting environment
  • Basic Excel skills, and the ability to navigate Excel spreadsheets
  • Knowledge and experience working in an Insurance environment

As a team, we are passionate and enthusiastic about what we do. Our people are encouraged to think independently and to take ownership of their work. In return for your commitment, we will offer you generous remuneration and an attractive benefits package which will include:

  • Competitive salary
  • 26 days holiday
  • Company pension scheme with the option to increase contributions
  • The option to join our Sports and Social club which organises discounted events such as theatre visits, wine tasting and shopping trips
  • Progressive career pathway and development opportunities
  • Employee reward and incentive scheme
  • Group Income Protection for all employees
  • Group Legal Protection for all employees
  • European Motor Assistance and Home Emergency Assistance
  • Inclusion in our Health Cash plan
  • Salary sacrifice benefits including Cycle scheme
  • Access to our employee discounts hub offering exclusive discounts across thousands of retail partners, including discounted gym memberships at over 3,000 gyms across the UK

If you think you would be a good match for this role and can demonstrate some transferable experience, please apply, regardless of whether you meet all the criteria listed above.
