As a Paralegal you will be responsible for managing a caseload of Residential Landlord and Tenant claims.

You will be encouraged to take early responsibility for the litigation process, albeit always under appropriate supervision.

Working with a team you will ensure that you deliver good customer outcomes whilst adhering with SRA and company requirements.

We undertake a wide range of litigation work and encourage an early level of client contact and file responsibility.

Responsibilities include

  • Managing a caseload on behalf of a range of clients and resolving disputes in a commercial manner either via the Courts or via the use of mediation and other ADR techniques;
  • Assess the prospects of success of claims, negotiate and litigate claims through the civil courts if necessary to trial focusing on the best result for each client.
  • To negotiate claims to a successful outcome through the most efficient and economic means
  • High level of understanding and experience of procedural matters within the litigation area to include all aspects of protocols and civil procedure;
  • Identifying risks in relation to the claim brought by the client, risks to the company such as fraudulent and exaggerated claims and reporting them appropriately.
  • Expectation of commercial awareness when taking risk based decisions.
  • Ensure the early assessment of the prospects of success of each claim and that the claim is handled throughout in accordance with the requirements of our client’s legal expenses insurance policy.

Key candidate requirements

  • High levels of technical ability and procedural matters in chosen field with experience in ADR
  • Previous experience managing a case load in line with customer and regulatory requirements
  • Experience of working in an SRA regulated environment is desirable
  • Articulate and confident in client care and ability to embrace a changing environment
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn, and to work as part of a team
  • Ability to act on own initiative and knowing when to seek assistance
  • You must be customer focussed in your approach to work and strive to provide a quality and efficient service to clients, including commercial insurer clients
  • You must have the ability to act on your own initiative but also know when to seek assistance
  • You must have the ability to identify risks and/or issues along with making suggestions for the appropriate mitigation of the same and to escape them appropriately in accordance with company policy
  • An ability to prioritise and work under pressure managing numerous commitments simultaneously
  • Demonstrable ability to make sound commercial decisions
