The Fire Service Engineer is responsible for the efficient servicing, maintenance, and support of fire protection systems, ensuring that all works are conducted safely, to a high standard, and in line with statutory and industry regulations. The role involves technical involvement throughout the lifecycle of each service visit or small works project, including commissioning, documentation, and client handover. We are seeking a motivated individual who has experience within the fire and suppression industry, although we will consider those who have a proven track record in project management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all service visits are carried out according to the service calendar and report issues to the Service Manager promptly.
- Take active involvement from the start of each job through to commissioning and client handover, including support with design queries, calculations, and documentation.
- Conduct thorough servicing and testing of fire protection systems in line with relevant standards (e.g., BS5839, BS5306, etc.), maintaining accurate records and witness documentation.
- Participate in the development of build budgets prior to the start of any work, including resource and procurement planning.
- Supervise and control any subcontracted labour during service or small works projects.
- Undertake small works in a compliant, safe, and organised manner, adhering to health and safety and relevant industry standards.
- Report comprehensively and in a timely manner, including submission of signed worksheets, photos, and other required documentation.
- Maintain cost control and budget records for service works under your responsibility.
- Support the preparation of applications for payment or invoicing of service works.
- Assist with sales or estimation tasks as required by the business.
- Work closely with sales, design, and technical teams to ensure continuity of work and effective project handover.
- Represent the company in a professional manner, fostering strong relationships with clients and industry professionals.
- Actively support the company’s reputation for quality, reliability, and expertise in fire protection.
- Cooperate with site management and contribute positively as part of the wider team.
- Monitor developments in the market and competitor activities to inform continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience in fire protection service engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of fire safety systems, standards, and regulations.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and service documentation.
- Skilled in identifying and resolving site-based issues efficiently.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Experience in supervising subcontractors or junior staff (desirable).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Any experience of working in a data centre environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Desirable Qualifications:
- FIA, IFEDA, or equivalent fire safety-related training or certification.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and experience preparing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
- CSCS card, PASMA, IPAF, or similar site qualifications.
