About the Role

Our client, a leading organisation in a highly regulated aerospace and defence environment, is looking for an experienced L2/L3 Application Management Services (AMS) specialist to join its operational support function. You will act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, working closely with business stakeholders, vendors, infrastructure teams and application owners to maintain and enhance a portfolio of enterprise and COTS applications. You will help deliver reliable, efficient support within SLA commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide L2/L3 AMS support across multiple COTS and enterprise applications, including TIBCO-based middleware services, ensuring service continuity, SLA adherence and high-quality resolution.
  • Triage, diagnose and resolve incidents, providing workarounds where permanent fixes require change, and keeping users and stakeholders informed throughout the ticket lifecycle.
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring and major incidents, maintain known error records and drive preventive actions through problem management.
  • Support service requests, including access, configuration, data updates, housekeeping and catalogue-driven fulfilment.
  • Coordinate change and release activities: impact assessment, RFC creation, CAB support, deployment validation, back-out planning and post-implementation checks.
  • Maintain operational documentation, including SOPs, runbooks, knowledge articles, support models, configuration records and handover artefacts.
  • Work with product vendors, third-party suppliers, Service Desk, infrastructure, security and business teams to manage dependencies and restoration paths.
  • Support monitoring, health checks, certificate and service account tracking, vulnerability remediation, patching coordination and licence/renewal reporting.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through trend analysis, automation opportunities, backlog reduction, knowledge reuse and operational reporting.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on L2/L3 support and troubleshooting of TIBCO middleware, covering messaging, file transfer, database, API/web service and SAP interfaces (JMS, JDBC, SFTP, SOAP/REST, JSON, BAPI, IDoc).
  • Proven AMS experience in a managed services or enterprise support environment.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL-aligned processes: incident, problem, change, release, service request, configuration and knowledge management.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across application, interface, data, access, configuration and environment issues.
  • Working knowledge of ITSM/ticketing tools, CMDB practices, SLA/KPI reporting, dashboarding and operational governance.
  • Ability to analyse logs and coordinate with infrastructure, database and security teams.
  • Good understanding of patching, vulnerability remediation, application maintenance, certificate tracking and service account governance.
  • Basic SQL/database knowledge and awareness of APIs, job scheduling, file transfers and application interfaces.
  • Experience working with onsite, offshore and third-party teams in a structured support model.

Desirable

  • Apache, Tomcat and IIS experience.
  • API integration and message queue knowledge.
  • Aerospace, defence, manufacturing or other regulated-industry background.
  • Application development experience.
  • Existing or previously held SC clearance.

Location & Security (Mandatory)

Candidates must live within commuting distance of Stevenage or be willing to travel regularly to the office/customer site. SC clearance (held, previously held, or eligible) is strongly preferred.
