Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Design Engineer
Location: UK | Full-time
A leading global technology and research organisation is seeking a PIC Design Engineer to join its advanced photonics R&D team.
You’ll work on the design and development of III-V and hybrid photonic integrated circuits, with a strong focus on optoelectronic device design, mask layout and design automation.
Key Responsibilities

Design PICs and active/passive III-V photonic components.

Develop semiconductor mask layouts and PDK components.

Work with design and fabrication teams to define mask sets and design rules.

Automate design workflows using Python.

Support technology development, NPI and external research collaborations.
Requirements
-
PhD in photonics, semiconductor devices, optoelectronics or a related field.

Strong knowledge of waveguides, modulators, detectors and passive photonic devices.

Experience with KLayout, Nazca or equivalent layout/design tools.

Strong Python programming skills.

Excellent technical/report-writing skills.
Desirable
-
3+ years’ experience in photonics or semiconductor device development.

Experience with PDK development and version control.
-
Knowledge of optical communications and III-V fabrication/epitaxy.

Industry or academic experience in photonics, telecoms or semiconductors.
