Our client is a leading player in the private markets industry, experiencing significant growth as they expand the portfolio and manage an increasingly complex array of investment funds. As they scale, they are looking for an experienced and dynamic Fund Controller to join the newly established finance team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-performing organization, where you will play a key role in driving the financial management and reporting of the expanding fund structures.
Position Overview:
As the Fund Controller, you will oversee the financial operations of the investment funds, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements. You will work closely with senior leaders, investment professionals, and external stakeholders to support the funds’ growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:
- Fund Accounting & Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for a portfolio of private market funds. Ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., US GAAP, IFRS).
- Investor Reporting: Manage the preparation of investor reporting packages, capital call and distribution notices, and fund performance updates. Ensure timely and accurate communication with investors and stakeholders.
- Cash Flow & Liquidity Management: Monitor, manage, and forecast liquidity across the funds to ensure sufficient capital availability for ongoing investments and operations. Proactively assess and manage cash flow needs, including capital calls, distributions, and the timing of liquidity events. Collaborate with investment teams to anticipate and address any liquidity issues.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the funds\’ financial practices comply with all relevant regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audit processes, and reporting to regulators. Coordinate annual audits and liaise with auditors as needed.
- Internal Controls: Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Identify areas for improvement in fund accounting processes and implement solutions.
- Fund Structure Analysis: Collaborate with investment teams to analyze fund structures, performance metrics, and financial models. Provide insights into fund performance and strategy.
- System Enhancements: Contribute to the optimization and enhancement of fund accounting systems and processes, including potential system integrations or upgrades as the business scales.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior finance staff, providing guidance on fund accounting processes, financial reporting, and career development.
- Ad hoc Projects: Support CFO and senior management in various strategic finance initiatives, including fundraising efforts, mergers & acquisitions, and business expansion.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CFA, or other relevant certifications are highly preferred.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in fund finance, with a strong background in private markets (Private Equity, Private Credit, Venture Capital, etc.).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Investran, eFront, or similar fund management systems). Strong Excel and data analysis skills. Familiarity with IFRS, US GAAP, and fund-specific accounting standards.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of private market fund structures, capital calls, distributions, NAV calculations, and investor reporting.
- Analytical Mindset: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to think critically about complex financial matters.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience leading teams or working in cross-functional teams with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
