Dartmouth Partners are working in exclusivity with an acquisitive FTSE building materials organisation in search of a Strategic Development Associate. Our client is a leading international distributor, retailer and manufacturer of a wide range of building products across Europe. This is an opportunity for a Strategy Consultant to join the Group Corporate Development team, headquartered in London, to work closely with Group senior management and collaborate with colleagues throughout Western Europe. The successful candidate will report into the Corporate Development Director and form a part of an acquisitive, well-established and experienced team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead market research and analysis, identifying attractive geographies and segments for organic and inorganic future growth.
  • Identifying the addressable market along with commercial implications, opportunities, and threats.
  • Ability to research and map out the key players and level of fragmentation in given markets.
  • Analyse and summarise local market dynamics, including market segmentation, business models, customer characteristics and other factors.
  • Ability to apply strategy frameworks to problem solving and analysis and present information/insights.
  • Lead commercial due diligence for new acquisitions.
  • Participating in the strategic planning process for the Group.
  • Project manage acquisition processes, including stakeholder management, coordinating due diligence workstreams, competition mapping, and input into legal documentation.

Experience & Personal

  • 2-4 years experience in a highly regarded consulting firm with experience in identifying addressable markets and market fragmentation.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and networks with multiple stakeholders at different levels.
  • Experience in industrials, building products, distribution is a plus.
  • Strong desire to move from strategy into corporate development with a willingness to learn M&A concepts/financial modelling with a view to becoming a well-rounded corporate development practitioner (note: not a requirement to have – this can be taught).
  • Exceptional PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen, highly numerate/analytical with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop internal and external networks.
  • Structured problem solver that can think strategically and develop frameworks to decompose and simplify complex problems.
  • Comfortable functioning both independently and as part of a small team, meeting stringent deadlines and work quality standards.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, multi-task, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability and flexibility, able to respond quickly to changing demands, processes and updated information.
  • High standard of written and verbal English.
  • Ability to speak another European language (desirable but not essential).
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and positive with an upbeat attitude.
  • Flexible approach to work, willing to play a full role in ensuring the success of the team and the wider Group.
