The complex, FCA-regulated business operates at significant scale and is looking to appoint a Group Financial Controller reporting into the Group CFO, acting as a true number two and key contact for investors. This is a critical leadership role within a business undergoing substantial transformation, remediation, and operational strengthening.
This role requires an individual with exceptional resilience, technical depth, and the ability to lead through complexity and change. The Group Financial Controller will take ownership of the UK finance control environment, leading a sizeable, technically strong team while driving improvements in process, governance, and reporting quality. A key mandate is to stabilise and enhance the finance function, embedding discipline and best-in-class controls in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Own and enhance the Group’s financial control framework within an FCA-regulated environment
- Lead balance sheet integrity and validation, ensuring accuracy and robustness
- Drive improvements in month-end close, reporting processes, and control discipline
- Operate effectively within a complex, evolving regulatory landscape
- Full ownership of the audit process, acting as the key liaison with external auditors
- Improve audit readiness, quality of supporting documentation, and timeline delivery
- Oversee statutory reporting and ensure compliance with IFRS (including IFRS 15)
- Manage complex accounting judgments and technical accounting positions
- Play a central role in ongoing finance transformation and remediation initiatives
- Identify control gaps and implement scalable, sustainable solutions
- Embed best practice processes, governance, and operating models
- Drive increased automation and efficiency across finance operations
- Lead and develop a large, technically capable finance team
- Build a high-calibre, high-performance function
- Strengthen capability across key areas including technical accounting, reporting, and controls
- Oversee finance systems enhancement and implementation
- Support offshoring/shared service models where appropriate
- Ensure systems support scalable growth and regulatory compliance
- Proven experience as a Group Financial Controller / Financial Controller in a complex, regulated environment
- Qualified accountant with significant post-qualified experience as a team leader
- Strong background in financial services or similar FCA regulated sectors
- Experience managing large teams and operating at scale (£500m+ revenue environments)
- Deep understanding of IFRS (particularly IFRS 15)
- Strong technical accounting and judgement capability
- Robust experience in balance sheet control and reconciliation
- Track record of improving audit outcomes and control environments
