As a Dartmoor Headwaters Assistant you will play a key role in delivering the Dartmoor peatland restoration project. You will support the South West Peatland Partnership’s objectives to restore natural processes in priority catchments when needed, working with the Dartmoor National Park Authority and other partners.
Responsibilities
- Assist with detailed surveys and assessment of restoration sites.
- Help produce maps and support decisions on restoration techniques.
- Ensure all relevant permissions and consents are in place before work starts.
- Assist with the recruitment and supervision of contractors on the high moor.
- Support the delivery of flood management interventions.
- Monitor and survey peat depths, ecology, hydrology and the landscape.
Qualifications
- Experience of practical conservation work or countryside management.
- Project planning experience, especially in upland or peatland settings.
- Knowledge of farming, particularly upland farming.
- Background in peatland restoration is preferable.
- Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with contractors and farmers.
- Excellent project management abilities.
- A genuine love of the outdoors; significant time will be spent on the high moors in challenging conditions.

Location and Working Arrangements
The post is based at the Authority’s head office at Parke, Bovey Tracey, and Princetown, but will involve travel to other sites within the National Park. The Authority operates flexible working hours and is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
