Darthaven Marina is located in the stunning South Hams countryside, surrounded by rolling hills and in a truly tranquil setting. Our impressive 270 berth marina has grown over the past 30 years, and we continue to pride ourselves on the first-class service we provide to our berth holders, visitors and customers. We’re currently looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our team in Kingswear on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37.5 hours per week.

With considerable accountancy experience already embedded within our organisation, you’ll discover plenty of support and the chance to get involved in more accountancy work as your skills and ambition allow. We’ll enable you to enhance your existing skills and develop expertise within the marine sector to support future growth and development.

What will I be doing?

As an Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting our accounting function, providing timely information to management, and helping to ensure healthy financial and cash flow. You’ll be playing an active role across our financial activities, supporting and reporting to the Finance Manager and providing additional administrative support as required. Your role will involve:

  • Sales invoice management, including raising service work invoices using sales order processing, preparing and posting warranty invoices following receipt of warranty claims, processing invoices and credit notes in respect of internal works, managing work in progress reports and following up on customer queries with senior managers.
  • Sales ledger management, including preparing sales invoices using sales order processing, sending customer statements, chasing debt and handling customer queries by email, over the phone, and in person.
  • Purchase ledger management, including matching purchase orders to invoices using purchase order processing, posting purchase invoices, supplier statement reconciliations, setting up supplier payments for approval, handling supplier queries by email, over the phone, and in person.
  • Bank transaction management, including posting receipts and payments to ledgers and preparing bank reconciliations.
  • General administrative duties, answering telephone calls, and filing invoices.

What do I need?

To be considered as an Accounts Assistant, you will need:

  • Experience gained within a formal accounts setting, either in practice or industry, in a role such as accounts assistant, ledger clerk, finance administrator, or similar.
  • To possess an AAT qualification or be qualified by experience (QBE) with demonstrable equivalent skills.
  • To be highly organised, persistent and thorough.
  • To be able to describe yourself as a completer/finisher for any tasks you are set.
  • To be personable, well-presented, and an effective communicator.
  • A conscientious approach with exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

Please note, we are also eager to hear from those who have completed an accountancy apprenticeship and are looking to gain more experience in the industry.
