Overview

The Empress Breast Unit at Darent Valley Hospital is recruiting a Specialty Doctor. The role starts ASAP and continues until March 2026. The unit operates from a dedicated area with a waiting area, reception desk, four clinical rooms and a digital mammogram and ultrasound machine with facilities for Vacuum Assisted Mammotome biopsies.

The Multi-Disciplinary Breast Team consists of the post holder, five Breast CNSs, one metastatic breast care nurse, two Advanced Nurse Practitioners, two secretaries, two MDT coordinators and a breast support worker. The team works with oncologists from Kent Oncology Centre in Maidstone, radiologists and research nurses.

The Breast Unit currently sees around 6,000 new patients a year and over 10,000 patients in total including follow-ups. Last year the unit treated over 350 new cancers including about 90 screen‑detected breast cancers.

There are numerous training opportunities for the post holder to enhance knowledge and management of breast cancer, complex oncoplastic and reconstructive work, benign breast disease management, family history clinics and up-to-date technology such as OSNA.
