We are seeking Theatre Practitioners to work within our theatres across a wide variety of specialties. Previous anaesthetic experience is essential for this post. It is essential that you hold the UK qualification or equivalent conversion to the UK requirements.
This position is based at Queen Marys Hospital, Frognal Avenue, Sidcup, DA14 6LT. Full-time, permanent, Band 5.
Responsibilities
- Provide high quality peri-operative care to all patient groups and assist the anaesthetist.
- Assist with the organisation of reception and discharge of patients, ensuring safe and competent care during the immediate and post-operative period.
- Act as a resource/advisor to junior staff and students, contributing to teaching, planning and evaluation of care.
- Ensure patient documentation is complete and up-to-date; maintain accurate care plans and progress records.
- Contribute to quality assurance activities within the Critical Care Directorate.
- Assist in ensuring patients are safely transferred back to ward areas according to recovery area protocols.
- Provide skilled assistance to the anaesthetist and be a positive role model to junior staff.
- Participate in on-call rotas or cross-site work if necessary; perform other duties as required within the grading of the post.
Person Specification
Education and Training (Essential/Desirable)
- Essential: First level Registered General Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner; evidence of CPD.
- Desirable: Further relevant professional studies or working towards a course (e.g., Theatre Scrub/Recovery/Anaesthetic Practitioner); post-reg educational qualification ( Mentorship ); relevant degree-level studies.
Knowledge and Skills (Essential/Desirable)
- Essential: ability to plan/organise day-to-day clinical activities; excellent written and verbal communication; team-building; understanding of clinical risk and change management; problem solving; prioritisation; customer service.
- Desirable: demonstrable clinical expertise in the area; understanding of HR processes, finance management; awareness of NHS plans and initiatives; computer literacy.
Experience
- Essential: previous clinical experience in a theatre service specialty area.
- Desirable: experience assisting in change processes within a clinical environment.
Qualifications and Registration
- Current UK professional registration is required.
