We are looking for a dedicated and proactive CCTV Operator to join our Community Safety Team. You will play a key role in helping to keep our residents, visitors, and communities safe by monitoring and responding to incidents across the Borough through our state-of-the-art CCTV control room. This is a rewarding role for someone with strong attention to detail, calm decision making under pressure, and a commitment to public service and who would like to be a part of a professional proactive team.

The shift patterns for the team change from days, mid and night shifts and you will be expected to work evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays when this falls into your rota. Please note that part of your shifts will mean that you will be a lone worker. You will work closely with the Senior CCTV Operations Supervisor to ensure necessary cover in the control room and that all relevant council colleagues are fully briefed on current events.

You will also be required to work with the Dartford Town Against Crime Business Crime Reduction Partnership, which will include liaising with private sector CCTV operators and staff as well as Kent Police colleagues to help in the prevention and detection of crime whilst trying to assist in the apprehension of offenders. You must be sufficiently autonomous in making decisions and interventions involving the direction and control of emergency Services to an incident in Dartford covered by CCTV. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced, disciplined professional environment and although we are looking for someone with experience and right expertise, we will consider on job training for the right candidate with transferable skills if you are looking for a change of career path.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor live CCTV footage to identify and respond to incidents in real time.
  • Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and evidential recordings in accordance with legislation and local policies.
  • Liaise with internal teams, emergency services, partner agencies, and external stakeholders to support community safety and crime reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act, GDPR, Surveillance Camera Code of Practice, and all relevant operational procedures.
  • Assist in providing high quality evidential material to support investigations and legal processes.
  • Operate and maintain CCTV, communications, and recording equipment effectively and securely.

  • Understands the importance of discretion, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Is comfortable working in a secure, technology driven environment.
  • Can work shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays 365 days a year.
  • Communicates clearly with management, colleagues, emergency services, and partner organisations.
Desirable:
  • SIA CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) Licence.
  • Experience in a security, control room, or enforcement environment.
  • Knowledge of local government services and community safety priorities.
