Job Description

Help turn complex Defence programmes into practical outcomes

At Darter, we work with organisations across Defence, National Security, Government, Aerospace, and Technology to tackle complex problems, shape strategy, and deliver meaningful change. We're looking for a Strategy Consultant to work on digital and strategic challenges across UK Defence and national security. You'll join a small, growing team, working directly with

clientstosolve problems and make progress.

Candidates must be based in or around Bristol or London and comfortable with regular travel to client sites across the UK.

What you'll do

  • Shape and structureclient problems, helping to define scope, objectives, constraints and the keyquestions to explore.
  • Get stuck intoanalysis across a range of inputs and sources, turning complexity into clearoptions and recommendations.
  • Lead and contributeto stakeholder interviews, workshops and working sessions with senior military,civil service and industry figures.
  • Produce high-qualitydeliverables, briefings and papers that stand up to senior scrutiny and supportreal decisions.
  • Play an active rolein planning and managing delivery, including actions, dependencies, risks andmilestones.
  • Work closely withcolleagues to challenge thinking, refine advice, and maintain quality andcoherence across outputs.

Requirements

What we're lookingfor

  • Around three or moreyears' experience in consulting, strategy or a similar advisory role.
  • Comfortable withambiguity, and able to turn complex or incomplete information into clear nextsteps.
  • Clear written andverbal communication, including with senior stakeholders.
  • Sound judgement and adisciplined approach to delivery.
  • Able to obtain UKSecurity Clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience inDefence, government or the wider public sector.
  • Curiosity aboutdigital, data, technology or AI.
  • Experience withgovernance, operating models or organisational change.
