AI is changing the way businesses work, but many start-ups and SMEs are still figuring out how to move beyond the hype and use it in ways that make a real difference.
This role is designed for recent graduates who want to be part of that change.
Location: Wales-based role with Welsh SMEs. Working pattern to be confirmed — roles may be office-based or hybrid depending on the host business.
Hours: Minimum 25 hours per week
Contract length: 6-month graduate placement programme
Salary: At least the National Living Wage, with the potential for a higher salary at the discretion of the host business.
About the Opportunity
This role is designed for graduates who already have a strong interest in AI and want to apply their knowledge in real business settings. You will work with an SME in Wales to help identify practical AI opportunities, support implementation of useful tools and help staff build confidence with new ways of working. You will be trained and supported to work as a Graduate AI Consultant, helping businesses understand where AI can add value and how it can be used responsibly.
What You Will Be Doing
Depending on the needs of the business you are matched with, you may support work such as:
- Reviewing current business processes and identifying where AI could improve efficiency
- Mapping workflows and spotting repetitive, manual or document-heavy tasks
- Researching and comparing AI tools that could support the business
- Helping design small AI adoption pilots linked to real business needs
- Producing simple recommendations for managers in plain, practical language
- Supporting responsible AI use, including data privacy, human review and quality control
- Helping the business build confidence with AI without overcomplicating the process
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for recent graduates who can show more than a basic understanding of AI and how it can be used in practice. You may be a good fit if you:
- Have studied a relevant subject such as computer science, data science, science, business, engineering, marketing, technology, mathematics, economics or another relevant discipline
- Have practical experience using AI tools for study, work, projects or personal learning
- Understand the importance of using AI responsibly and safely
- Are curious about how businesses work
- Can explain technical ideas in clear, simple language
- Are confident asking questions and learning from others
The role will help you build real experience in one of the most important areas of the modern economy. You will develop consultancy-style skills, learn how SMEs make decisions and help a business in Wales take practical steps towards becoming more productive, cutting-edge and globally competitive.
