English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) / Multilingual Learner Teacher
Salary: Board Approved Salary Schedule/Full-time, 190-Day Position
Location: Darlington County School District
Available: 2025-2026
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Student Support Services and Federal Programs
Job Goal: Provide high-quality, research-based instruction to support the academic achievement and language development of multilingual learners. Collaborates with educators, families, and school staff to ensure access to appropriate instruction, appropriate services, and a safe, supportive learning environment.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates current and accurate knowledge of best practices in multilingual learner education.
- Assists with the identification, assessment, placement, and instructional support of ML students to promote academic success.
- Designs and delivers standards-aligned lessons using diverse instructional strategies, technology tools, and higher-order thinking skills.
- Differentiates instruction by assigning developmentally appropriate tasks and providing remediation to support student understanding.
- Maintains a safe, orderly classroom environment and implements effective behaviour support in alignment with school and District policies.
- Uses data to monitor student progress; maintains accurate attendance, assessment, and ML compliance records.
- Assists with the administration of District and state-required assessments.
- Collaborates with general education teachers through co-teaching, instructional accommodations, and curriculum planning to improve student outcomes.
- Communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behaviour, and instructional goals; connects families with community resources as needed.
- Establishes professional, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and ongoing learning to enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Reports regularly to the Director of Federal Programs to provide updated ESOL/ML program information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred
- Minimum of five years highly successful teaching
- Major strengths required in reading, language arts, and communication skills
- Possess or working toward a South Carolina ESOL endorsement
