Overview Description: Elementary School Reading Interventionist / 190-day position

Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule

Location: Black Creek Elementary School

Available: 2026 - 2027

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Principal

Job Goal: To work with students to overcome academic gaps; to communicate with parents, teachers and principals regarding each student's needs and progress.

Notes: Negative TB Test results must be on file with Human Resources prior to starting work. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Complete a training program on the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI) and the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS).
  • Administers an initial reading assessment to children at the start of the school year to identify those most in need of LLI instruction.
  • Administers running records, LLI assessments, and BAS assessments to make recommendations for the discontinuation of children from the program.
  • Monitors the progress of children discontinued from the program.
  • Observes children during classroom reading instruction to ensure transfer.
  • Communicates with teachers regarding LLI children through regular conferences.
  • Communicates with school personnel, including the principal, on the progress of LLI.
  • Keeps complete records on each child as a basis for instruction (running records, LLI assessments, BAS assessments, predictions of progress, lesson records, record of writing vocabulary, record of book level).
  • Demonstrates effective teaching of LLI children.
  • Serves a minimum of twenty children per year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. The principal will determine the specific essential job duties as planned for his/her school.

Qualifications:

  • Certified teacher with at least three (3) years experience at the primary level or in specialized reading with primary students.
  • Professional development experiences including courses or workshops on language development.
  • Have knowledge of process writing and approaches to early reading instruction.
  • Be able to establish a collaborative relationship with other teachers, parents and administrators.
  • Organized and skilled at record keeping.
