Overview
Exceptional Education Shadow Position: 183-day position
Salary: $20,159 base salary (based on education and experience)
Location: Darlington Middle School
Available: 2026-2027 School Year
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Responsibilities
- Acts as a mandated reporter for the safety of the students.
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives and IEP goals.
- Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc., to support student needs in the classroom.
- Assists students with personal care needs (e.g., diapering, lifting, transitioning) as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations related to job functions.
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff and health care professionals regarding student progress and IEP objectives.
- Escorts students to ensure safe arrival to and from destinations.
- Implements research-based interventions under supervision to reinforce learning concepts.
- Intervenes in potential conflicts using appropriate approaches to minimize disruptions.
- Monitors daily schedule and behaviour plan to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Provides instruction in individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives and ensure access to the least restrictive environment.
- Supervises students in various settings (e.g., field trips, hallways, cafeteria) to ensure safety and a positive learning environment.
- Supervises and escorts students during emergency drills or emergencies to maintain safety.
- Collects data on IEP goals to maintain records and support data-based decisions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Sixty (60) academic credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education, or an associate degree (or higher), or a High School Diploma or equivalent with Ready to Work Credentials.
- Credential options: WIN (minimum Silver: Level 4) or Work Keys (passing scores in Applied Mathematics 4, Reading for Information 4, Writing 4) or ParaPro (minimum score 456).
- Alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Requirements

- College degree or transcript showing 60+ credit hours OR High School Diploma or equivalent AND WIN, Work Keys or ParaPro
